You can now book an Uber for you and your pet for an additional fee in a number of Australian cities
Uber have expanded their ’Uber Pet’ service into a number of Australian cities, offering passengers the chance to assure their pet of choice is welcomed along for the trip - but it will cost you more.
Following a trial in Sydney and Brisbane, Uber Pet launched on 25 June, in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Canberra, Newcastle, Hobart, Cairns, Sunshine Coast, Geelong, Wollongong and Darwin.
Uber Pet is specifically designed to give pet lovers peace of mind that their much-loved companions will be welcomed along for the ride.
The service provides drivers who stay opted in, the opportunity to earn an extra fee, as the service costs an additional $6-7 ‘pet fee’ on top of the standard ride fare.
How Uber Pet works
Uber Pet is now active in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Canberra, Newcastle, Hobart, Cairns, Sunshine Coast, Geelong, Wollongong and Darwin, in addition to Sydney and Brisbane, as a separate product in the Uber app. Simply request the Uber Pet product to be matched with a driver who is eligible and willing to transport you and your furry family member.
Uber Pet trips will attract a $6-7 surcharge.
If you’re travelling with a service animal, you should continue to select your regular Uber option. Assistance animals are legally allowed to go everywhere their owner goes.
Uber continues to venture into different fields or sub-fields as it pushes to one day become a profitable company as it always promised it would be.
Around the world, Uber now offers services in the ride-sharing sector, delivery and collection of goods, food delivery and two-wheeled modes of transportation.
