A woman in Doncaster has been sentenced to over three years in prison following a violent attack on a taxi driver during a robbery.
Casey Wilkins, 28, targeted her victim by pulling a wire around his neck before punching him repeatedly in the head and face. While the driver was under attack, Wilkins ransacked the taxi, stealing his wallet and a bag containing change. She then fled the scene.
Police were called to Christ Church Road, where the incident took place. Wilkins was quickly arrested and taken into custody.
Once detained, CCTV footage showed her attempting to hide the stolen cash. Officers searching her discovered £120 in five-pound notes.
Wilkins, who is of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to robbery. On Monday 2 December, she was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison.
Detective Constable Joseph Albutt, who was the officer in charge of this case, said: "Officers responded promptly to reports of the robbery, leading to Wilkins being arrested within minutes of the offence.
"The level of incriminating evidence against her meant she had no choice but to plead guilty to this offence and I am pleased she has now been given a significant custodial sentence.
"This was a violent attack on an innocent taxi driver going about his daily business.
"We take reports of robbery very seriously and we see first-hand the impact it has on victims. We hope this reassures you that we will always endeavour to investigate and take action against perpetrators of these crimes and will seek to deliver justice on behalf of victims."
