Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and a coalition of safety and enforcement agencies carried out a comprehensive road safety initiative at Manchester Airport. The Safer Transport Team, working alongside GMP Airport officers and a number of partners, engaged with drivers operating at the busy aerodrome.

The operation resulted in more than 80 vehicle stops, with inspections conducted by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). The day’s activity led to the issuance of Traffic Offence Reports (TORs), vehicle seizures, and several arrests, according to the GMP Traffic spokesperson.

In a related event a day prior, Wolverhampton Taxi Licensing Compliance Officers joined forces with GMP and additional enforcement agencies at the airport for a similar operation. This collaboration saw coordinated efforts from multiple bodies, including Immigration Enforcement, the DVSA, and Rochdale Trading Standards, with a collective aim to uphold public safety.

While the City of Wolverhampton Council confirmed their involvement, they did not release detailed outcomes or statistics. The targeted initiative highlights a strategic approach to ensuring compliance and safety in the airport’s transport network.

A Greater Manchester Police Traffic spokesperson said: “Safer Transport Team staff & other partners 'landed' at Manchester Airport to support Greater Manchester Police Airport officers in engaging & educating drivers using the aerodrome, with a view to enhancing road safety.

“Over 80 vehicles stopped, leading to a number of checks by DVSA, TORs, seizures & arrests.”
