Unlicensed Hackney taxi detected in Kerry by Irish Gardaí prompting investigation

An unlicensed hackney taxi was detected working in Kerry by Irish Gardaí, prompting an investigation.
A Garda Síochána spokesperson confirmed that an unlicensed hackney vehicle was intercepted in Dingle, County Kerry. The vehicle was identified by Kerry’s Roads Policing Unit while operating for hire and reward without proper authorisation.
It was revealed that the vehicle had not undergone the mandatory inspection by the National Transport Authority (NTA) and was therefore not licensed to provide hackney services.
Authorities are now considering prosecution through the NTA. Additionally, the driver faces a Garda investigation for potentially operating without insurance.
The Garda Síochána Kerry spokesperson said: “Kerry R.P.U. in Dingle last night detected an unlicenced hackney vehicle being operated for hire and reward.
“Vehicle had not undergone an inspection by the National Transport Authority, therefore, not licenced to operate as a hackney.
“Prosecution to be considered by the N.T.A. and driver also under Garda investigation for possible no insurance.”
