The driver of a London minicab is under police investigation after being found driving with a revoked driving licence and without the vehicle owner's consent.

The Metropolitan Police Roads and Transport team pulled over the white Toyota Prius private hire vehicle in the early hours today.

According to sources the vehicle was stopped after officers noted the minicab driving at speed in the Westminster area of London.

It was found that the driver was not licensed by Transport for London (TfL) as a private hire driver. The driver was also found to have had their driving licence revoked.

Police seized the vehicle and the driver who had no insurance is also under investigation for taking the vehicle without the owner's consent.

A spokesperson from Met Police Road and Transport said via social media: “This PHV was seen driving at speed in Westminster by officers from #cabsunit.

“Vehicle stopped and driver was found to be not licenced by Transport for London Taxi and Private Hire.

“Driver also had a revoked driving licence, no insurance and is being investigated for taking a vehicle without the owners consent.”

Upon inspection the driver of the vehicle told police that they had ‘borrowed’ the car from friends. The driver did not have a valid driving licence or insurance.
