Uber XShare: Ridehail giants cutting costs and carbon in Bristol

Perry Richardson

Uber has unveiled a new pilot service in Bristol aimed at offering passengers a cost-efficient and environmentally conscious way to travel.

Dubbed Uber XShare, the initiative allows customers to share rides with others heading in a similar direction, promising a reduced fare and a smaller carbon footprint.

By opting for a shared journey, passengers can save up to 20% on the usual UberX fare. The service has been designed to minimise disruption to users, with shared trips adding no more than eight minutes to the total travel time.

This initiative forms part of Uber’s broader strategy to innovate urban mobility solutions that balance affordability with sustainability. Uber XShare debuts alongside a broader push from the company to cater to younger users and families. This rollout includes two additional products: Uber for Teens, designed to offer safe travel options for teenagers, and Uber One for Students, a budget membership aimed at reducing costs for students.

Andrew Brem, Uber’s UK General Manager, highlighted the practicality of the new suite of services, stating it provides a seamless, safe, and efficient option for busy families and individuals. He emphasised the company’s commitment to making travel more accessible while ensuring parents, teenagers, and drivers have a reliable experience.
