Ride-hailing app Lyft, who are Uber’s main rival in the United States, have released figures which have revealed the company had over 4,000 reports of sexual assaults during the period of 2017 to 2019.

The firm released the data for the first time this week after pledging in 2019 that they would be more transparent over such incidents.

In its report, Lyft said the number of sexual assault reports collected through its app had risen from 1,096 in 2017 to 1,255 in 2018 and 1,807 in 2019.

Over fifty per cent of incidents which took place in 2019 were reported as “non-consensual touching of a sexual body part”.

According to the report seen by TaxiPoint, another 156 reports involved “non-consensual sexual penetration“. In addition there were 10 fatal assaults from 2017 through 2019, including four in 2019 reported.
