Ride-hailing firm Uber have launched a discounted rides program in partnership with the White House.

The program provides all Americans with a discounted ride of up to $25 for each of their journeys to and from their designated vaccination site.

Anyone that has booked a vaccine appointment in the US can now log on to their Uber app and select the ‘Get your free ride’ option. There will be no charge for passengers travelling to vaccination sites if the journey costs less than $25. If the trip costs more than $25 they will receive a $25 discount for the journey instead.

Uber officials say drivers will receive the full payment for the trip.

Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber CEO, said: “Not having transportation shouldn’t be a barrier to vaccination, which is why we announced with the White House that Uber would offer free rides to all Americans going to get vaccinated. Beginning today, four free rides (up to $25 off each) are available in your Uber app through July 4.

“As part of the road to recovery, the White House has set an important goal for 70 percent of the US population to be fully vaccinated by July 4. While we’re making great progress, we still have work to do.”

“We are proud to work with the White House to help achieve this goal and make it as easy as possible for all Americans to get vaccinated. We’ve built a new easy-to-use in-app experience, integrating vaccines.gov data directly into the Uber app, where users will be able to find nearby available vaccines from tens of thousands of local providers, in addition to information about supply and manufacturers at each location.”
