Uber launches ‘Meet & Greet’ service for Heathrow Exec & Lux trips

Uber are set to introduce a new feature at Heathrow Airport, aiming to enhance the experience for business travellers and upscale riders. From 8 October 2024, Uber drivers handling Exec and Lux bookings will provide a ‘Meet & Greet’ service across all Heathrow terminals.

The new feature will apply to all advanced bookings for Exec and Lux trips at Heathrow. Riders will be able to request airport pick-ups up to 90 days ahead, or as little as two hours before landing. The key element is that drivers will meet the passenger in the Arrivals area, providing a more personal touch compared to standard curbside pick-ups.

Drivers will be incentivised to participate. For every ‘Meet & Greet’ trip completed during October, Uber is offering a £15 bonus. These trips also promise higher fares, meaning drivers stand to benefit financially from the higher-end service offering.

Riders pre-book an Exec or Lux trip, and drivers can accept these opportunities via the Uber Driver app. Drivers are expected to be online at least an hour before the scheduled pick-up and to be at the Arrivals area on time, with flexibility allowed for flight delays.

The reservation includes an hour of waiting time in the airport Arrivals area. Should the rider fail to show up or cancel with less than an hour’s notice, drivers are eligible for a cancellation fee. Parking costs are also factored in, with up to two hours of short-stay parking charges included in the trip price.

The introduction of ‘Meet & Greet’ will be mandatory for all Exec and Lux airport pick-ups at Heathrow, setting it apart from standard rides, which will continue to use the usual designated pick-up points. This initiative is part of Uber’s broader effort to attract premium customers by improving the service level for business and luxury riders.

Drivers are not required to wear professional attire or assist with luggage, though Uber suggests that such extra touches could help boost customer satisfaction and possibly increase the demand for these types of trips. The new feature is positioned as a win-win: providing a more premium service for passengers while giving drivers the opportunity for higher earnings and bonuses.
