Uber Eats pulled from eight countries around the world as part of Uber's "ongoing strategy"
Uber Eats will be ending services in eight countries as Uber pursues its ongoing strategy to be first or second position in all 'Eats' markets by leaning into investment in some countries while exiting others, the firm announced in a regulatory filing.
Uber Eats are pulling the plug in the Czech Republic, Honduras, Egypt, Romania, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay. In addition, it will also be transferring its 'Eats' services to its subsidiary Careem platform in the United Arab Emirates.
The regulatory filing stated: "The discontinued and transferred markets represented 1% of Eats Gross Bookings and 4% of Eats Adjusted EBITDA losses in Q1 2020. Consistent with our stated strategy, we will look to reinvest these savings in priority markets where we expect a better return on investment."
Uber have confirmed that it plans to have all eight markets closed by 4 June.
