Uber drivers’ concerns on earnings, deactivations and safety set for discussion with GMB Union

The GMB Union has confirmed it will soon meet with Uber for its regular quarterly meeting to discuss key concerns raised by drivers.
Among the top priorities is driver earnings, with the union seeking a dedicated meeting to examine pay levels. Holiday pay remains another major issue, with many members wanting it removed from the fare offer card.
Insurance documentation is also on the agenda. According to the union, some drivers believe minor mistakes are being wrongly flagged as fraudulent, leading to unnecessary penalties. Driver deactivations will be discussed as well, with concerns over the speed of account removals and the level of evidence used to justify them.
The union will also push for updates on previously raised issues. These include preventing riders from screenshotting drivers’ profile pictures, changes to airport cancellation fees, and the ability for riders to modify bookings—such as switching from a standard car to a larger vehicle when needed.
Further topics include ensuring drivers have the final say when passengers try to add extra stops mid-journey and clarifying luggage expectations to avoid disputes.
GMB has already secured changes to Uber’s Trip Radar system following its initial trial, but the union acknowledges that concerns remain. Talks will continue on this issue.
