Uber driver iPhone app could soon be able to hook up with CarPlay Dashboard to accept rides
Updated: Feb 14, 2023
iPhone using Uber drivers may soon be able to hook up their Uber app directly to their private hire vehicle (PHV) dashboard using Apple’s CarPlay, according to TechCrunch.
In a email delivered to drivers, and seen by media outlet TechCrunch, the new integration will first roll out to drivers in the US, but all drivers on the platform are likely to have access to the technology by the end of the month.
CarPlay is seen as a smarter and safer way to use iPhone in cars, enabling the driver to better focus on the road. When connecting your iPhone to CarPlay, the driver will be able to access turn-by-turn directions, make calls, send and receive messages, listen to music and more.
With iOS 13 and later, the CarPlay Dashboard provides a single place to keep track of Maps, audio controls and Siri Suggestions, which provide easy access to things such as your Calendar events.
Uber drivers are expected to use CarPlay to view and accept job offers, navigate around the Uber app, and even add future rides to their queued trips.
