Uber brings Lotus Hyper-SUVs to London’s streets
Until the end of November, Uber riders in London can travel in style with the addition of the Lotus Eletre Hyper-SUV to the Uber Green fleet. These ultra-luxurious, fully electric vehicles are available for a limited time, giving passengers a taste of premium zero-emission transport at no extra cost.
The initiative is part of Uber’s broader effort to promote sustainable travel. Nearly 30% of all miles completed on Uber in London are now fully electric, reflecting a significant shift towards environmentally friendly transport options. Riders booking Uber Green trips can track the emissions they save using the app’s Emissions Savings tool, which has been available since earlier this year.
To further encourage uptake, Uber has launched a competition. The rider who saves the most emissions by exclusively using Uber Green trips by 30 November will win a decade of free Uber Green rides. This campaign aligns with London’s wider goal of reducing air pollution and transitioning to cleaner travel.
The Lotus Eletre, the brand’s first all-electric Hyper-SUV, represents a blend of luxury and cutting-edge technology. These vehicles are being introduced in partnership with Otto Cars, London’s largest private hire fleet provider. Drivers operating Uber Green trips receive 10% more per fare compared to UberX rides, incentivising a quicker shift to electric vehicles. According to Uber, drivers adopting EVs are switching at five times the rate of the general population.
Since the launch of Uber Green in central London in 2021, the service has helped save 55,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, offering riders a zero-emissions option for the same price as an UberX. With the addition of the Lotus Eletre, Uber is combining luxury with sustainability, giving passengers a glimpse of the future of urban transport.
Andrew Brem, General Manager for Uber UK, said: “We’re thrilled to team up with Lotus to combine cutting-edge luxury with sustainable travel. Uber drivers are already leading the way, going electric far quicker than regular motorists – making London Uber’s global capital for electrification. Now we’re excited to allow our riders to experience one of the world’s most exciting electric cars.”
Conor Horne, Commercial Director of UK and Ireland at Lotus, said: “We are incredibly excited to partner with Uber to have a fleet of our all-electric Lotus Eletre available in London via the app for passengers to experience and enjoy. We hope this initiative will not only enhance the riding experience for Uber customers but also contribute to a greener city, something we at Lotus are very passionate about.”
Gurinder Dhillon, Otto Cars CEO, said: “We are delighted to power-up this concept for Uber and Lotus. Let’s prove that a sustainable ride can be a thrilling experience, without the smoke."
