Tragic M62 collision involving taxi and two lorries claims lives of Ryanair pilots

Two men who died in a fatal collision involving a taxi and two lorries on the M62 yesterday have been named.


Matt Greenhalgh, 28, and Jamie Fernandes, 24, both Ryanair pilots, were on their way to Liverpool Airport when the incident occurred at 5:31am.

The taxi they were travelling in collided with two lorries on the westbound carriageway between junctions 8 and 7. Tragically, both men died at the scene. Specialist officers are supporting their next of kin during this difficult time.


The taxi driver sustained serious injuries and is currently in hospital. The driver of one of the lorries, a 61-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Cheshire police are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward. They can be contacted on 101 or via the Cheshire Police website, quoting IML 1867786.
