TOP TEN: Motorists vote for their top motorway services station

In a recent study conducted by Compare the Market, it has been discovered that a staggering half of UK drivers strategically plan their trips based on which service stations they will be stopping at.

Moreover, over a third of these drivers are even willing to take detours from the quickest route to reach a service station they deem as superior. With such dedication to the pit stop, the research aimed to uncover the best service stations in the country.

The study evaluated 63 popular motorway service stations across the UK, ranking them based on their customer score, number of restaurants, parking spaces, and electric vehicle (EV) charging points.

Topping the list of the best service stations in the country is Reading Moto. This service station earned this title thanks to its remarkable offerings of 23 restaurants and 64 EV charging points, making it a haven for hungry drivers and environmentally conscious individuals alike. Coming in at a close second is Warwick, which shares the accolade of having the highest number of restaurants (23) but falls slightly behind Reading in terms of EV charging stations (43).

Claiming the third spot is Gloucester, a service station that distinguished itself with an impressive customer score of 86%. Gloucester also received five-star ratings for its prices, cleanliness, convenience, accessibility, and the wide range of quality shops and food outlets available.

The findings revealed that a variety of restaurants and a sufficient number of parking spaces were top priorities for these drivers. Additionally, the presence of EV charging points has become increasingly important, reflecting the growing demand for electric vehicles in the country.

Julie Daniels from the car insurance team at Compare the Market said: “When preparing for a long drive, it’s always a good idea to plan your journey ahead of time so you can factor in regular breaks, in order to stay alert and keep yourself and others safe. This will also let you find a service station that best meets your needs, whether you have a favourite restaurant chain or need an EV charging point.”
