Three more arrested in 1994 Nottingham taxi murder case
Detectives investigating the 1994 murder of Nottingham taxi driver Ethsham Ul-Haq Ghafoor have arrested three more suspects.
Officers made the arrests early on Wednesday 5 February at multiple locations across Nottingham and the wider county. The men, aged 58, 57, and 55, were detained on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.
Ghafoor, known as Shami, was found dead in his taxi on 22 November 1994. A milkman discovered his body at 4.30am at Lambley Lane Playing Fields in Gedling. His hands were tied to the steering wheel, and he had been shot in what police described as “an execution”.
A dedicated team of detectives has been reviewing forensic evidence and following new lines of inquiry since the investigation was relaunched last year. Officers searched three properties in Nottingham, Wollaton, and Beeston as part of their latest operation.
Nine people have now been arrested in connection with the case. Police have informed Ghafoor’s family, who are receiving support from specially trained officers.
The investigation continues.
Chief Inspector Clare Dean, who is leading the investigation, said: “We made a commitment to Shami’s family that we would leave no stone unturned when we relaunched the investigation last year.
“We continue to follow all new and existing lines of inquiry to ensure that his family get the answers they have waited for.
“Today, we have arrested three men on suspicion of murder, and they remain in police custody.
