A private hire driver licensed with Liverpool City Council has been reported after roadside checks revealed they were operating on a dangerously low tread tyre.

Liverpool City Council Licensing have stepped up their efforts in recent weeks as we approach a usually busy period over Christmas, to ensure taxi and private hire vehicles are of a safe standard.

One private hire driver caught the attention of enforcement officers after they found one of the vehicle's tyres was so badly worn, its tread was exposed along the inside edge.

Taking to social media to highlight the shockingly bald tyre, Liverpool City Council Licensing said: "Inspection of PHV found the tyre illegal with cords exposed.

"Driver issued a prohibition notice for the vehicle and will be reported for offences committed.

“No excuses for tyres being this bad, safety is paramount."

Motorists found to be driving with tyres which are not considered roadworthy face a fine and 3 points issued to their licence for each tyre found to be illegal.
