The London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) continues its long-standing support for the Magical Taxi Tour (MTT), as the charity marks its 30th anniversary.

Organised by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers, the annual event takes children with life-threatening conditions on a memorable trip to Disneyland Paris, with the help of over 100 taxis.

The journey has begun with a breakfast send-off, before a convoy of black cabs departs from London. Stretching up to five miles long, the procession is escorted through the UK by the City of London Police, before French authorities take over for the remainder of the route.

Since its launch in 1994, the Magical Taxi Tour has arranged 28 trips, taking more than 6,000 children on the journey. In total, black cab drivers have donated over 140 days of their time, covering 19,000 miles across the trips, with around 3,000 taxis involved.

The event is entirely funded by donations. Since 2016, Geely Holding Group, which owns LEVC, has contributed £200,000 to support the tour. LEVC’s iconic black cabs have always been at the heart of the event, with various models from the Fairway to the TX featuring in the fleet. In recent years, LEVC has upped its contribution, donating an additional £200,000 since 2013, along with fuel and spending money for the families each year.

Now in its 30th year, the fleet is dominated by LEVC’s TX zero-emission capable taxis, providing safe and sustainable travel for both families and drivers.

Chris Allen, Managing Director, LEVC said: “Taxi drivers travel from across the UK to support the outstandingcharitable work of the Magical Taxi Tour, providing a vital and necessary service to those families and children involved. As we celebrate its 30th anniversary, I’m delighted that LEVC’s iconic TX is playing such an important role in ensuring safe, accessible and comfortable transportation for all participants.”

Kenneth Flemwell, a 30yr veteran of the Magical Taxi Tour, said: “It’s the thirtieth anniversary of the charity this year and I’ve been involved right from the start. It’s been a really good thing to do in life and drivers that have never done the trip before stand open-mouthed watching what goes on. It is a really, really good thing to be involved with and I am very proud to be part of this amazing taxi trade.”

Phil Davis, Founder, Magical Taxi Tour, said: “As we celebrate 30 years of the Magical Taxi Tour charity, I’m proud to look back on the families and children we have supportedover the years. This vital charity work provides much-needed respite, delivering a weekend of fun and laughter at Disneyland Paris. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved - our sponsors, our drivers, and all those who make this incredible trip possible every year.”
