Transport for London (TfL) could extend its current contract with GT GetTaxi (UK) Limited, believed to be worth around £16 million, beyond its initial term, according to a recent response from the Mayor of London.
Alex Wilson, a London Assembly Member, raised concerns over the scale of the spend, asking what justified the contract’s value and what would follow once the agreement expires on 3 April.
Sadiq Khan confirmed the contract, which covers taxi services for TfL staff, was awarded after a competitive tender. It runs for three years from April 2022 and includes an option to extend for up to two further years.
The Mayor said the service supports staff working overnight or early morning shifts when public transport is not a viable option. It also assists in dispatching personnel to incidents across the network, helping maintain Underground operations.
TfL is currently reviewing the option to extend the existing contract before launching a fresh tender process in due course.
Khan said: “Staff Travel Service (Taxis) provides a vital service for Transport for London (TfL) operational staff working very late night and early morning shifts when public transport is not reasonably or readily available. They are also used to dispatch staff to incident locations, ensuring the smooth operation of the entire London Underground service.
“After a competitive tender process, a contract was awarded for an initial three-year term, ending on 3 April 2025, with an option to extend for up to two additional years.
“TfL is currently considering extending the existing contract using the available contractual option and will subsequently initiate a new competitive tender.”
