Taxi plate suspended after Derbyshire roadside check finds exhaust fumes leaking into passenger area

A Hackney Carriage taxi plate has been suspended after routine roadside checks revealed exhaust fumes were leaking into the passenger seating area.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit revealed the worrying find following the team's monthly checks.

Posting on their Twitter account, @DerbyshireRPU, wrote: "Hackney carriage. Exhaust fumes into passenger area and excessive smoking. PG9 prohibition and taxi plate suspended. #TaxiChecks."

A number of other yellow taxis had plates suspended, leaving members of the policing team feeling "disappointed".

Enforcement Officer, Mr Bashford, revealed 4 of the 7 taxis he checked were removed from service.

Defects included leaking fluid, faulty lights, exterior damage and interior hazards.

All vehicles will remain off the road until all defects are fixed and reach licensing standards.
