Taxi drivers set to protest against approval of minicab office in Peterborough town centre
Over 100 taxi drivers are set to protest against the decision to approve a new private hire office in Peterborough town centre.
Members of the Peterborough Hackney Federation are up in arms at the City Council Planning and Environmental Committee's decision to grant approval to a new minicab office in the former Maplin unit on Westgate.
Initially an application was submitted in June but was rejected on the grounds that it would increase the likelihood of anti-social behaviour and crime in the area.
The Peterborough Telegraph reported that at the time of the first application, over 100 hackney carriage drivers protested against the plans as the council were making the decision.
The plans have since been resubmitted, but this time with a plan for marshals and CCTV to ‘police’ the area from antisocial behaviour, and taxi drivers are ready to protest again on 3 February.
