Taxi drivers in Athens staging 6-hour STRIKE over new bus lane access rules
Updated: Jan 24

The Taxi Drivers’ Union of Attica (SATA) are staging a 6-hour work stoppage on Thursday 23 January 2025. The industrial action will run from 9am to 3pm.
The decision was reached unanimously during a board meeting where the draft law for a new Road Traffic Code was reviewed. Central to the concerns is the issue of access to bus lanes, with SATA pushing for a rule change to permit loaded taxis to use these lanes.
As part of the planned action, taxi drivers will assemble their vehicles at 9.30am at the junction of Spyros Patsis Street and Athens Avenue. From there, a march will proceed to the Ministry of Transport. Representatives will deliver a petition outlining the sector’s demands.
This stoppage marks an escalation of SATA’s efforts to address industry concerns and ensure taxi drivers’ voices are heard in shaping transport policy.
