Officers investigating an incident in which a taxi driver was sprayed in the face with a substance outside Wolverhampton station are today releasing this image in connection.

At 11.50am on Friday 22 October, a man was spotted attempting to steal a scooter from the station car park by a driver parked in the taxi rank. The taxi driver sounded his horn at the man to stop him.

The man then ran towards the taxi and started banging on the window and threatening the driver. He then returned to the scooter as a second taxi driver got out of his car and challenged the man, shouting at him to stop.

The man walked towards him, pulled out a cannister from his pocket and sprayed a liquid directly in the taxi driver’s face. He then fled the scene towards Wolverhampton town centre.

The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital for further assessment. Thankfully, he did not suffer any lasting injuries.

Officers believe the man in the CCTV image may have information which could help their investigation.
