Taxi driver threatened at gunpoint during West Midlands fare

A man has been charged after allegedly threatening a taxi driver with a firearm in Sandwell last week.
The incident unfolded after a driver picked up a fare from Ebenezer Street in West Bromwich on the evening of Thursday 27 March. During the journey, the driver managed to stop the vehicle in Wednesbury and alert police without raising suspicion.
Officers responded swiftly and arrested a suspect in the local area shortly after. A knife was recovered nearby during the operation.
West Midlands Police confirmed that Rasharn Russell, 19, from Walsall, has been charged with kidnap, possession of an imitation firearm, possession of a knife, attempted robbery, and making threats to kill.
Russell appeared before Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 29 March and will appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court at a later date.
