A taxi driver in Wales must pay over £1,000 in fines and costs after DVSA enforcement officers found two heavily worn tyres on their cab.

The DVSA shared images of a black Ford taxi stopped by officers in Cwmbran. Both front tyres were deemed to be illegal with one of the deepest parts of the tyres only measuring 0.94mm in depth.

The legal minimum tread depth sits at 1.6mm.

Penalty points were handed to the driver plus a huge £990 fine, plus costs and victim surcharges on top.

DVSA Enforcement said: “A taxi driver in Cwmbran has received a £990 fine, including costs & victim surcharge at court.

“They were driving a vehicle with two front tyres below the legal limit of 1.6mm (tread depth).

“Their licence was also endorsed with penalty points. Please check tyres.”
