Taxi cross border enforcement in Preston sees two private hire drivers suspended for heavily worn tyres
Updated: Aug 4
Authorities from the City of Wolverhampton collaborated with Preston Council Licensing and British Transport Police Greater Manchester at Preston train station.
The joint operation on 26 July aimed to check vehicles and drivers for compliance with regulations.
The operation resulted in two private hire vehicle (PHV) licences being suspended due to illegal tyres.
City of Wolverhampton licensing officers also conducted enforcement checks in Blackpool on the same day.
This cross-border activity is necessary as drivers often operate outside their licensed areas. By extending their enforcement reach, authorities ensure that all drivers adhere to the required safety and operational standards, regardless of where they pick up passengers.
A City of Wolverhampton Public Protection spokesperson said on 27 July: “Last night, compliance teamed up with Preston Council Licensing and British Transport Police Greater Manchester at Preston train station checking vehicles and drivers.
“Two PHV licences suspended for illegal tyres.”
