‘Taxi Cop’ issues taxi and private hire driver warnings over in-car video offences

Avon & Somerset Police’s dedicated ‘Taxi Cop’, PC Patrick Quinton, has issued a reminder to licensed taxi and private hire vehicle drivers about the dangers and legal consequences of using in-car video displays while behind the wheel.

PC Quinton highlighted that watching YouTube videos or playing music via Spotify where moving images are displayed during driving constitutes an offence. This behaviour, he warned, risks the safety of all road users.

The officer confirmed that several drivers have recently received fines for such actions. His warning serves as a timely reminder for drivers to avoid distractions caused by in-car devices.

Authorities continue to stress that safe driving requires full attention, with violations likely to result in enforcement action.

PC Patrick Quinton said: “A quick reminder that watching Youtube videos, or playing Spotify music which displays moving images as it's playing whilst you're driving is an offence. It puts everyone's safety at risk and a couple of drivers have ended up with tickets for this lately.”
