Taxi booking app FREENOW ‘optimistic’ about the positive impact new Silvertown Tunnel will bring to London
The highly anticipated Silvertown Tunnel is scheduled to open on 7 April 2025, a development expected to bring significant improvements to London’s transport system.
Transport for London (TfL) and Riverlinx Limited confirmed the opening date, highlighting the tunnel’s potential to ease congestion and enhance connectivity across the capital.
FREENOW UK, a leading ride-hailing platform, expressed optimism about the tunnel’s impact. Nour Rasamny, Head of Operations at FREENOW UK, welcomed the changes, particularly the exemption of taxis from the daily user charge. Rasamny stated this would lower costs for drivers and enhance service efficiency for passengers, describing the development as a step forward in tackling congestion and improving reliability.
The Silvertown Tunnel marks a significant addition to London’s infrastructure, with its dual focus on reducing journey times and offering sustainable transport alternatives.
Rasamny said: "The opening of the Silvertown Tunnel is a significant development for London’s transport infrastructure, and we’re optimistic about the positive impact it will have on reducing congestion and improving journey times for our taxi drivers and passengers.
“With taxis exempt from the daily user charge - this is a real win for our drivers, helping them keep costs down while providing a faster and more efficient service for Londoners. At FREENOW, we’re committed to supporting our drivers as they navigate the city, and infrastructure upgrades like this are crucial for improving reliability, congestion and connectivity across the capital."
