St Pancras Renaissance Hotel honoured for support of Poppy Cabs taxi initiative
Poppy Cabs has recognised the team at St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel for their vital support of the Poppy Cabs initiative.
London Taxi PR’s (LTPR) Andy Scott, a Poppy Cabs committee member, visited the hotel on 12 December to present a certificate of appreciation. Director of Food & Beverage, Elias Yiallouris, and Hansom Lounge Manager, Alexander Kovac, accepted the award on behalf of the venue.
The certificate highlights the team’s efforts in hosting the Poppy Cabs briefing meeting on Remembrance Sunday. The hotel provided the Hansom Lounge, parking facilities, and refreshments for drivers and marshals.
Scott expressed gratitude to General Manager Ed White and his team for stepping in when Poppy Cabs needed a new venue. Two years ago, the initiative lost its regular briefing location, prompting Scott to approach the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel for support.
Scott said: “Ed was most willing to help and has been a delight to work with. He was especially keen to work with us given the venue’s historic connection to the London Taxi profession with The Hansom Lounge, which is named after the Hansom Cabs (the predecessors to Hackney Carriages, London Taxis) that would pull up on the cobbled driveway into the station to drop-off and pick up passengers.”
Poppy Cabs, now in its 15th year, offers free transport for military veterans and their families to and from the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday. London taxi drivers and marshals volunteer their services without charge, a proud tradition of honouring veterans’ contributions.
Beyond London, Poppy Cabs also facilitates transport for veterans attending memorial events across the UK, France, and Belgium.
Scott added: “The presentation of the certificate was to show our appreciation for General Manager Ed White and his team, including Elias, Alexander and also Director of Groups and Event Management, Jade Kerr, who not only looked after us but helped ensure that the morning briefing went smoothly and we had adequate space and refreshments for all those who were in attendance.”
