Shocked police stop car doing 60mph with rear tyre MISSING and EIGHT people including KIDS onboard
Officers from the North Yorkshire Roads Police Group congratulated colleagues in the Scarborough Response team for potentially saving lives after an incident on the A64 on Thursday.
The Response team stopped a dark blue Volkswagen car after being seen astonishingly driving at 60mph with one rear tyre COMPLETELY MISSING.
If that wasn’t enough, it got worse. Officers inspected the vehicle and found EIGHT people in the car including a baby, two toddlers and a young child.
None were found to be wearing seatbelts, with one of the children UPSIDE DOWN in the rear footwell.
The North Yorkshire Policing Roads Group also reported that all three remaining tyres were bald, with metal cord exposed.
The driver of the death trap vehicle didn't have a licence and the car was uninsured.
Shocked police officers arrested the driver, a man in his 20s, and took him into custody. Officers issued a prohibition order on the car.
He was charged with dangerous driving, driving without an appropriate licence and driving without insurance. He is now due to appear at Scarborough Magistrates' Court soon.
Officers added: “This happened during our seatbelt awareness campaign, to highlight the risks and penalties for not wearing a seatbelt!
“We patrol North Yorkshire's roads 24/7. We keep them safe for everyone who uses them legally. We deal robustly with anyone who doesn't.”
