Sheffield City Council the latest to offer taxi drivers a £500 support grant in South Yorkshire

Perry Richardson

Sheffield City Council are the latest Local Authority in the Sheffield region to announce individual financial support worth £500 per licensed taxi driver.

Support for taxi drivers within the region who have suffered a loss of income due to wider coronavirus related restrictions will receive the flat payment of £500 available to each licensed taxi driver.

This payment will be made from the £30m figure provided to Sheffield City Region to support the region's businesses, and follows similar industry support schemes earlier announced by Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster Councils.

The grant for taxi drivers licensed by Sheffield City Council (SCC) will be available to cabbies working up to and including 13 October 2020. The claimant must also live in South Yorkshire or bordering areas to qualify.

The council are urging cabbies wishing to make a claim to go online. The application is complete when SCC receive the form along with all required evidence asked for.
