Taxi Licensing Enforcement Officers from Sandwell Council, working alongside West Midlands Police and other agencies, carried out vehicle safety checks in West Bromwich.
The operation identified a number of vehicles that failed to meet regulatory standards. Several of those inspected were found to be missing the legally required ‘No Smoking’ signage.
In one case, a driver was suspended due to vehicle damage. The driver has been ordered to carry out the necessary repairs within 21 days before being allowed to operate again.
The council confirmed the checks form part of routine enforcement measures aimed at maintaining safety and compliance across the local taxi trade.
A Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council spokesperson said: “Taxi Licensing Enforcement Officers have undertaken another successful multi-agency operation with West Midlands Police and other agencies, to carry out vehicle safety checks in West Bromwich.
“As part of the operation, various vehicles which were inspected didn’t have any ‘No Smoking’ stickers displayed.
“One driver was also suspended for vehicle damage that requires them to have their vehicle repaired within 21 days.”
