REVOKED: Two Stratford-on-Avon taxi drivers lose licences after multiple speeding offences

Updated: Jul 17

Two taxi drivers licensed by Stratford-on-Avon District Council have had their licences revoked following a June hearing at the District Council's Licensing Panel.

A 58-year-old driver from Southam, Warwickshire failed to notify the council of speeding convictions within the required timeframe. Over ten months, he accrued three separate speeding convictions (SP30), totalling nine points on his licence. Additionally, he has another pending speeding offence (SP50) set for hearing at Warwickshire Magistrates' Court in September.

The second driver, aged 75 from Honeybourne, had previously been suspended for 12 weeks in October 2023 for failing to report speeding offences. He has now been convicted of another speeding offence (SP50), which is also pending a hearing at Warwickshire Magistrates' Court in August 2024.

The Licensing Panel concluded that both drivers were no longer deemed fit and proper to hold a Dual Driver (Hackney Carriage and Private Hire) licence. Consequently, their licences were revoked.

The Licensing Panel convened on 12 June. Both drivers had 21 days to appeal the decision at the Magistrates' Court but chose not to appeal. Therefore, their licences have been permanently revoked.

Cllr Lorraine Grocott, Chair of the Licensing Panel, said: "Public safety is of paramount importance when it comes to considering whether a driver is fit and proper to hold a licence. On this occasion, the standard that Stratford-on-Avon District Council expects of its licensed drivers fell below that which is expected from both of these drivers."
