Greater Manchester Police responded to calls of a body being spotted on the M60 during the early hours of Wednesday 25 August.
On their arrival, a man was found to be asleep by the side of the motorway near Junction 7.
Officers reporting on the incident confirmed that the man had chosen to walk home along the motorway before deciding that a quick cat-nap was needed.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Just attended the M60 J7 following reports of a body on the motorway. Turned out to be a male who decided to use the M60 to walk home, got a little tired and decided to have a nap on the hard shoulder.
"TOR issued and removed from the motorway."
