Private hire driver killed in devastating crash with five others injured in Manchester

Police have opened an investigation after one man died and five others were injured in a crash in Fallowfield.
Around 3.30am today (Wednesday 1 January 2020), police from Greater Manchester Police force were called to reports of a collision on Yew Tree Road.
Officers attended and found a black Mercedes C43 AMG had collided with an oncoming Skoda Octavia.
The 59-year-old driver of the Skoda Octavia sadly died at hospital a short time later. His next of kin has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.
Five other men were taken to hospital – four with serious injuries, one of whom remains in a critical condition.
The road was closed for accident investigation work but has since been reopened.
Inspector Danny Byrne, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which one man died and five others were injured on what should have been a night of celebration – our thoughts are with them and their loved ones as our investigation continues.
“I would like to use this opportunity to ask anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact us as soon as possible.
“We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who saw the black Mercedes in the area prior to this collision.”
