Private hire driver in hot water after failing to produce insurance documents to Police Scotland
A private hire driver in Edinburgh has been reported after officers from Police Scotland’s National Motorcycle Unit found that they were in breach of a number of licensing conditions.
Officers were alerted to the private hire driver after he was seen waiting near a taxi rank while smoking in the vehicle. It goes against licensing regulations for any taxi or private hire driver to smoke in a licensed vehicle.
During checks, the driver was unable to produce insurance documents. All taxi and private hire drivers are required to carry their insurance documents at all times whilst working.
A spokesperson for the force said: “The National Motorcycle Unit identified a private hire driver was in breach of several licence conditions on George Street, Edinburgh;
- smoking in vehicle
- unable to produce insurance documents
- waiting near taxi rank for next pre-booked fare
“Reported to PF and taxi office.”
The driver could now face a hearing with the Taxi and Private Hire Licensing Committee.
