Police seek witnesses after early morning sexual assault in Gloucester city centre while woman waited for taxi
Gloucestershire Police are calling on witnesses to assist in their investigation after a woman was sexually assaulted in Gloucester city centre during the early hours of Sunday 19 January.
The incident occurred at around 2.15am on Southgate Street, close to Tesco Express, while the victim, a woman in her 30s, was waiting for a taxi.
According to police reports, an unknown man approached the woman and attempted to engage her in conversation. When she declined his advances, the man allegedly became irritated and tried to touch her without her consent.
The victim stated that the man leaned against her and put his hand up her dress. She managed to move away and tried to call a friend for support. At this point, the man walked away from the scene.
The woman, although shaken by the ordeal, was not physically harmed.
Police have described the suspect as an older man and are actively reviewing CCTV footage from the area. However, officers are urging anyone who may have been in the vicinity at the time or witnessed the events to come forward with information.
