Peterborough taxi and private hire vehicle CCTV and MOT issues addressed during council talks

The Peterborough Private Hire Association (PPHA) has announced progress in addressing key concerns within the taxi industry following a recent meeting with the city’s Licensing Authorities.

During the two-hour meeting, a primary focus was the potential introduction of CCTV in taxis. The PPHA stressed the importance of CCTV in enhancing safety for both drivers and passengers.

Discussions centred on how to implement these systems without compromising privacy or placing undue financial pressure on drivers. According to trade representatives the licensing authorities are said to be considering these factors carefully.

The PPHA also voiced concerns about delays, availability, and service quality of its designated MOT facilities. The Licensing Authorities were said to be open to the feedback and indicated a willingness to explore solutions aimed at improving the efficiency of vehicle testing in Peterborough.

A Peterborough Private Hire Association (PPHA) spokesperson said via social media: “We recently held a productive two-hour meeting with the Licensing Authorities, where we discussed several pressing issues affecting the taxi trade.

“Our top priority was CCTV, as we recognise its role in enhancing both driver and passenger safety. We engaged in an in-depth conversation about how best to implement CCTV, aiming to balance safety with privacy considerations, and to address any potential impact on costs for drivers.”
