Pedestrian seriously injured after Greater Manchester collision with private hire vehicle



Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are seeking witnesses following a serious collision on Burton Street, Middleton, on Wednesday 2 October.


The incident, which occurred at approximately 12pm, involved a private hire Toyota Prius and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a woman in her 70s, was crossing the road when the collision occurred. She sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently in hospital receiving treatment. Her condition remains critical.


The driver of the Prius, a man in his 30s, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving without due care and attention. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have footage—dashcam, mobile, or doorbell—from the area at the time to come forward. Such footage could be crucial in understanding the events leading up to the collision.
