Ridehail giant Bolt has unveiled its Ride-Hailing Economy Report, shedding light on how the industry is helping individuals across the UK and beyond access work.
The report draws on feedback from over 40,000 drivers across 25 countries, including the UK. It reveals how flexibility, independence, and strategies like multi-apping are shaping the ride-hailing sector as a viable and entrepreneurial career choice.
In the UK, 54% of drivers are parents, many of whom benefit from the ability to balance work with family commitments. The report also highlights that 80% of drivers have a migratory background, showcasing the sector’s inclusivity. Notably, 86% of UK drivers cite flexibility as the main reason for working in ride-hailing, enabling them to set their own schedules, manage other responsibilities, and pursue their goals.
Many UK drivers are adopting entrepreneurial strategies, with 70% working across multiple platforms to boost their earnings. This approach allows them to maximise financial stability while maintaining independence. Impressively, 26% of those earning through ride-hailing in the UK report making at least £4,000 per month.
Nearly half of the UK’s ride-hailing drivers have been in the industry for more than three years, signalling its appeal as a sustainable, long-term career option. Sustainability is also taking centre stage, with hybrid vehicles making up 50% of the UK ride-hailing fleet—well above the global average.

Now, I can focus on my businesses with that same flexibility. I’m an entrepreneur, and ride-hailing helped me finance my business. It’s straightforward: open the app, earn, and work.”
