Licensed taxi and private hire drivers will be able to apply for a one off support grant payment of £500, Luton Council have announced.
Due to the negative impact the coronavirus has had on the taxi and private hire industry, some licensing authorities around the UK have given licensed drivers the opportunity to apply for support grants.
Luton Council join an ever growing list of authorities to do so. In order to be eligible for a grant payment, the licensed taxi or private hire driver must:
Be a licensed taxi or private hire driver with Luton Council on 5th November 2020.
Operate as a licensed taxi or private hire driver in the Luton area.
Be resident in Luton.
The council has made it clear that the bank account details provided for payment must belong to the applicant, and have stressed that payments will not be made to a 3rd party bank account.
The decision to award or withhold a grant payment is entirely at the discretion of Luton Council.
Drivers can access the grant application via the Luton Council website.
