In an unexpected nod to London’s iconic taxi trade, a black cab and the gruelling Knowledge of London test made an appearance in the Christmas special of Gavin and Stacey.
The episode, which aired during the festive season, delighted audiences and drew attention from within the taxi industry.
LEVC, the manufacturer of the modern TX black cab, quickly joined the conversation on social media.
Sharing a clip from the special, the company wrote: “Oh, drive! Did you enjoy the finale? We absolutely loved seeing the TX make a special appearance on this iconic TV moment over Christmas.
“You never know, next time you hail a black cab, it could just be Nessa driving.”
The mention refers to a surprising revelation in the episode, where Nessa—a bold and eccentric character played by Ruth Jones—casually announced she had passed the Knowledge and previously worked as a taxi driver.
The Knowledge of London is a formidable test of memory and navigation skills required to become a licensed taxi driver in the capital. Candidates spend years memorising 320 routes, 25,000 streets, and thousands of landmarks within a six-mile radius of Charing Cross.
Gavin and Stacey, a popular sitcom created by Ruth Jones and James Corden, follows the lives of two families—one from Essex and the other from Wales. Known for its relatable humour and well-drawn characters, the show has maintained its cult status since it first aired in 2007.
