Nottingham dual taxi and private hire licence holder's badge revoked for refusing to take guide dog

A Nottingham City Council dual licensed hackney carriage and private hire licence holder has had his badge revoked and been fined for refusing to take a woman and her guide dog despite not having an exemption certificate.

At around 1pm Friday 19 July 2019, the complainant contacted a private hire operator to book a vehicle to take her from her home address to her dentist for an appointment at 1.40pm.

The vehicle arrived about 10 minutes later and the complainant went outside and stood at the roadside with her guide dog.

The complainant stated that the driver, Mr Hardev Singh Digpal, informed her that he couldn’t take her dog.

He contacted his operator to ask for another driver to take her and then drove off.

John Davis, Nottingham City Council's Taxi Licensing Compliance Manager told TaxiPoint: "Mr Digpal did not have an exemption certificate. He pleaded guilty at Magistrates' Court on 30 December 2019 and was fined £143, with £200 costs and £32 victim surcharge.

“His Nottingham City Council combined hackney carriage & private hire driver’s licence has now also been revoked."
