North Lincolnshire taxi spot checks yield positive results with only minor issues detected
North Lincolnshire Council has carried out a series of taxi inspections with the aim of ensuring passenger safety and vehicle compliance. The initiative, conducted in partnership with Humberside Police, involved more than 30 spot checks on vehicles operating in the area.
During the inspections, officers examined essential safety features including headlights, brake lights, tyre tread, and on-board fire extinguishers. Police also administered breathalyser tests to drivers.
The results were largely positive, with all drivers registering a clear reading on the breathalyser and all vehicles deemed roadworthy. However, three warning letters were issued for minor compliance issues.
Tyres on three vehicles were identified as nearing the legal limit. These taxis are scheduled for further inspections to confirm full compliance with safety regulations.
Cllr Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for community wellbeing (rural), at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “It is our duty to ensure that the public are safe when they travel in licensed taxis in North Lincolnshire and it’s a responsibility we take very seriously.
“I hope the fact that all vehicles passed our thorough inspections brings peace of mind to residents. It’s a brilliant outcome and a real testament to the high standards of the drivers and operators who maintain the taxis.
“By working together, we can continue to ensure that passengers travel in safety and comfort when they take a taxi.”
