A night of roadside enforcement checks on taxi and private hire vehicles in London and Cardiff found a number of vehicles to be operating with dangerous defects.
In total, 23 'public service vehicles' were found to have major issues as the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) took to the roads to ensure taxi and private hire vehicles were safe to carry the public during the festive period.
A spokesperson for the DVSA said: "Keeping Britain's wheels turning safely.
"In two of the UK's capital cities, DVSA examiners were out in force ensuring public service vehicles were safe to carry the public enjoying festivities home.
"Between the two operations in London & Cardiff, alongside our partners, we found 23 issues, dangerous defects.
"Our intelligence led roadside checks allow us to support the public service vehicle industry to be safe for their customers."
The DVSA did not break down further how many of the 23 were hackney carriage and how many were private hire vehicles. They also did not detail what defects were found.
