New TfL taxi tariff consultation could see London prices increase 7% to cover rising costs

Transport for London (TfL) has launched its latest consultation on taxi fares, inviting drivers and the public to share their views. The proposals cover a range of potential changes to the minimum fare, tariffs, and charges at Heathrow Airport.

TfL is considering three options for the minimum fare: keeping it at the current rate of £3.80, or increasing it to either £4.00 or £4.20. Similarly, potential changes to tariffs 1, 2, and 3 include either freezing them or adjusting them based on rising costs, with increases of up to 7.48%.

Heathrow Airport Limited has already reduced its taxi feeder park fee from £3.60 to £3.00. In response, TfL is proposing to reduce the additional Heathrow charge for taxi passengers from £2.00 to £1.60.

A key part of the consultation focuses on Heathrow’s Terminal Drop Off Charge (TDOC), which is set to rise from £5.00 to £6.00 on 1 January 2025. TfL is asking for feedback on whether the charge for passengers should match this new rate, be frozen, reduced to below £5.20, or removed entirely.

The consultation is open until 2 December 2024, giving stakeholders a chance to influence the future of taxi fares in London.
