New Nottingham station taxi rank to begin 18-month trial
A new taxi rank will be introduced outside Nottingham railway station as part of an 18-month trial, Nottingham City Council has announced.
Carrington Street has been chosen as the trial location, providing space for eight wheelchair-accessible taxis close to the station entrance. Highways officials say the change will improve accessibility and add capacity for passengers.
Two experimental traffic orders will come into effect from Monday 3 February, running until August 2026. The first six months will be designated as an “objection period” for public feedback. The council is urging residents, visitors, and transport users to share their views.
The existing taxi rank on Trent Street will be reduced, making way for a new pick-up and drop-off bay. The five-minute waiting bay outside Loxley House will be replaced with spaces for disabled badge holders and wheelchair-accessible taxis.
Once operational, taxis will enter Carrington Street from Arkwright Street and exit via Canal Street, with no U-turns allowed. A new feeder rank on Arkwright Street will also be introduced, providing additional capacity for eight more wheelchair-accessible taxis.
As part of the changes, road markings for the advisory cycle lane on Carrington Street will be removed, though cyclists will still be able to use the route.
