Detectives are calling on taxi drivers for vital information following the death of a 75-year-old woman in Tottenham.
Officers were called to a property in Reynardson Road, N17, on 13 January after a concern-for-welfare report from the London Ambulance Service. Inside, they found the body of Pepita Sakirecili, also known as Pepita Garcia.
Investigators believe Pepita may have died before Christmas, but the cause of death remains unknown. A man, Dominic Whitton, 40, has been charged with preventing a lawful burial.
The Metropolitan Police Specialist Crime Unit is now urging anyone who knew Pepita to come forward, particularly a taxi driver who picked her up in August 2024. The driver reportedly helped her transport building supplies to Reynardson Road and showed concern for her welfare.
Detective Inspector Barry Hart is asking this driver—or anyone with dashcam or mobile footage from Reynardson Road between 16 October 2024 and 31 January—to contact the police.
Detective Inspector Barry Hart of the Metropolitan Police Specialist Crime Unit said: “Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Pepita’s death and we are appealing for information from anyone who knew Pepita.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who may be able to provide any background on her life. We would like to build a picture as to what may have happened to Pepita.
“We are also appealing for anyone with mobile phone or dashcam footage, taken in Reynardson Road between 16, October 2024 and 31, January, to contact police.
“I am particularly keen to trace a taxi driver who drove Pepita to the address in Reynardson Road in August 2024 and witnessed Pepita struggling to lift building supplies that she had bought. We believe the driver was concerned about her welfare and may have recorded Pepita on their mobile phone.”
