Updated: Jul 24, 2022

Police officers have charged a man with rape and other sexual offences after posing as a taxi driver in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police are now appealing for further information after a woman was raped in the early hours of 10 July.

Officers believe a man posed as a taxi driver in the city centre, Digbeth and Perry Barr areas and approached lone women late at night offering lifts home, alcohol and drugs.

As part of their investigation, a 40-year-old man has been charged with rape and other sexual offences. He has been remanded in custody.

Police are eager to speak to any other potential victims or witnesses of similar incidents.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We continue to support the woman and our investigation is still very much ongoing.”
