London taxi driver warns fellow cabbies of cloned vehicle plate racking up parking and speeding fines
A London taxi driver has fallen victim to a registration plate cloning scam, leading to significant inconvenience and potential legal issues.
The driver, who shared his ordeal on social media, revealed that his cab’s registration plates had been duplicated and placed on another vehicle operating in East London.
This fraudulent activity has led to the driver receiving four parking tickets and one speeding fine that were not his doing.
"Someone put my plate number on his cab and driving around East London," he wrote. "I reported to police already. I received 4 parking tickets and 1 speeding. Please, if you see him, call police or me. My cab is blue but this one is black."
Plate cloning involves criminals copying the registration number of a legitimate vehicle and using it on another, typically to avoid detection or fines. This practice can lead to innocent drivers being wrongfully penalised and facing the hassle of disputing fines and violations.
The affected driver shared an image of the taxi with the duplicated plate on a black taxi and urged other cabbies to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
